Why Millennials love their avocados

The origin of this millennials-love-their-avocados stereotype came to be during a Time magazine 60 minute interview with Tim Gurner, an Australian millionaire, back in 2017. Gurner used avocado toast as a symbol of millennial's extravagance and absurd indulgence, explaining why millennials will not have enough money saved to buy houses in the future.

"When I was trying to buy my first home, I wasn't buying smashed avocado for $19 and four coffees at $4 each," Gurner said.

His comments did not get received positively and sent the Internet into tizzy. Since this incident, the sarcastic stereotype of millennials with their avocado toasts stuck.
